Part II of the adventure is the installation of an ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card into a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 (MA356LL/A). You can check out Part I as that one deals with upgrading the machine to 16 GB of RAM in Save the Mac - Part I.
Herewith, another Rockhouse computer fiasco in glorious technicolor.

With this step complete, the Case Study machine is capable of running Final Cut Pro. This is close to the goal but it can't run the most current version of FCP as the processor chips don't support a high enough level of OS X. Addressing that problem comes in Part III.
Update: the new video card has been tested with Second Life running full HD at 1920 x 1080. There's no chance the original video card could have handled that. No difficulty was encountered and there was no sign of lag. However, note as per always, avatars bring their own lag. If your hair has fifty prims and half a dozen scripts to manage it, you're going to lag wherever you go.
