Bill Maher surprised me as he has kind of a smug manner and yet much of the documentary is about going around talking to people to ask them questions. While he's not shy about his lack of belief, he doesn't lecture anyone and he meets a great many people to get their points of view.
The presentation is somewhat slanted in that his choices of interview subjects are highly selective but even with that bias there's quite of bit of interesting material presented. Throughout much of the documentary, Maher held to this approach of carrying an agenda and interviewing people to illustrate it but the pictures the people paint are with their own words and beliefs.
But then he took a fairly decent job and threw it to the ground. The last ten or fifteen minutes turned into a lecture ... and that's when I turned it off. That was patronizing crap as no-one needs to be advised what atheism means or religion has a lot of problems. The interesting part is hearing what believers have to say. Being told things I know already just wastes my time.
For my own part, it takes no faith to believe in God as my existence as a flea fart in a gigantic Universe makes that self-evident. The faith is needed to believe in preachers, atheist or otherwise. In that respect I have no faith at all.
