Using such enormous spreads of land to benefit only a few richies with nothing better to do than play golf is egregiously wasteful ... but the land can serve another purpose.
The first purpose is to get some valid use of the land. While a cemetery is only slightly less wasteful than a golf course, it benefits a great many more people and, thus, combining them would use the land as effectively as possible.
That does nothing to make the game more interesting and some of you probably regard that as impossible but roll with it.
Where the interest comes in the third aspect of using the land as effectively as possible and that's to combine it with a shooting range.
(Ed: how does that make golf interesting?)
Those Izod boys will play a LOT faster if they're aware they are targets.
If you don't think this can work, think "Rollerball."
