Last night at Cat Boucher's Art MusikCircus it was a night of singing with acoustic guitars. Laralette Lane was to start first but there was some confusion about the start time and that got a bit muddled. I got her going but it was before she was really due to start and, at first, it wasn't clear how long she would sing.
She is just as sweet and charming in disposition as she is in the picture and when we got things sorted if she could play longer until Lefty was to start. She was happy to do that and she has the most adorable giggle about just about everything. She was thinking out loud of what she might play next and I said this is the circus, play whatever you want. She replied that she always plays whatever she wants. Yes! That's how you do it!
I haven't introduced Laralette previously so some background is that she is Dutch but she sings with equal facility in Dutch, German, or English. She sings cover songs and this wouldn't typically be a match for a performance at the Circus but it's the way she sings them and the ones she chooses that make the difference. She has a beautiful voice and is utterly charming. Her choice of songs is unpredictable and last night she even sang "Lili Marlene!"
Agleo had been trying to get to a show for several nights and she arrived last night but she did get there and here she is admiring Laralette's set:
Perhaps you ask why people perform in Second Life. Why, indeed!
Agleo is April Turner on Facebook and she paints quite extraordinary works. She too is a charming lady and assuming a progressive sense of art you will almost certainly appreciate her work.
Lefty Unplugged came back for another set and he too was joined by Agleo:
This is not a repeat report as Lefty doesn't do the same show twice. The one that struck me the most last night was when he was talking of the influence of religion in school on kids who don't want it. Everything is good if you want that education but if you don't there will be a problem and he is livid angry about it to this day. He expressed that quite firmly and he apologised afterward for his language but there was no need. English is comprised of a great many words and to fail to use one that is necessary is to offend one's own sensibilities in deference to those of someone else. In my view, that is never warranted and I very much appreciated his language as part of the portrayal of his feelings.
Lefty's thoughts inspired some thinking of my own on a similar subject and that will appear as a poem in the next article, The Chaplain's Story.
And Cat and I danced:
That's Laralette behind us, Agleo next to the stage, and Lefty Unplugged performing.
Lefty didn't play any electric music last night so it was a night of acoustic guitars and singing, all of which was very beautiful and I look forward to another night in which both perform again.
