Dancing on a Volcano - Finding Mount Etna (video)

There is visiting Greek ruins which is probably about as exciting as collecting matchbooks or there is going to visit a live volcano.  Mount Etna, Mount Vesuvius, and Pompeii are all in Italy but Mount Etna is the only one that's active on a regular basis.

Here's Genesis (sort of ... this was after Peter Gabriel left) dancing on a volcano:

In an egregiously 4/4 world, Genesis' percussion stands far above.

So the objective is to find Mount Etna and here's how it looks on a Google Map.  Bari is the landing point for a ferry coming over from Greece and that's the one that costs about €100 one-way (including the scooter).

Patra is the ferry departure point from Greece and Bari is the ferry landing point in Italy.

Getting down to Mount Etna is a fairly hefty distance out of the way but, when it comes to blowing things up, what does it better than Mount Etna.  Mount Vesuvius has quite the history after destroying Pompeii but Mount Etna is much more active.  If you're going to dance on a volcano, what fun will it be without molten lava!

It would make much more sense and possibly even cost less to get a ferry from Patra to Catania but I have not as yet discovered a carrier who goes there.  By American standards, it's not a big deal as it's about 500 kilometers from Bari to Mount Etna but that's a big hike on a scooter that will be cruising between 60 kph and 80 kph.
