Danica Patrick Takes Pole Position at Daytona 500

Danica Patrick hasn't answered my email about getting married but perhaps what I need to do is send it.  That might be the step I am missing.

I was really surprised to see the headline that Danica Patrick has the pole for the Daytona 500 as her performance in NASCAR hasn't been all that breathtaking and it didn't look like she was going to make it.  All of a sudden, whammo, she is leading the pack!  (CNN:  Danica Patrick wins historic pole position at Daytona 500)

That this is historic is typical CNN rubbish journalism as historic is landing on the moon, discovering a cure for cancer, or discovering the properties of radium, the last of which was by Madame Curie.  Taking the pole on the Daytona 500 is hardly history but it is sure as hell a very cool thing!

There are lots of shots flying about just now that she wouldn't even have a ride at NASCAR if she weren't a pretty woman.  That might even be true but there's no denying the money and publicity she has brought to NASCAR.  Nevertheless, what she did at Daytona isn't something money could ever buy.  Money will definitely buy a car and a crew that's fast enough to put you on the pole but you have to have the stuff to put your foot into it and take it there.  Danica Patrick did that and I'm damn glad to see it!

Many of the articles I write lately are in German and that's because there is relatively little interest in Greece in the U.S. but Germans frequently came on holiday to Greece.  The American interests are largely in have you got lucky with a Greek girl, been to a big fat Greek wedding, or met Zorba yet.  However, Germans will never be interested in NASCAR.  It is the biggest auto racing venue in the world but Europe is Formula One and likely always will be.  I enjoy both and hence this article.

I admire women who stand up and get it done.  I admire Cat for many things and very much for what she has done for Second Life music as she pushes the real thing; the music has to step out in some significant way or she's just not interested and I love that.  Danica Patrick has been doing a stand-up job for years and I admire that as well.  And, yes, it is harder for her as a woman and she has kept a reputation that's so immaculate that she could do P.R. work for the Vatican.  The church probably wouldn't like her GoDaddy commercials too much but the church ought to get over it.  They weren't THAT hot!

So, I wish Danica Patrick good luck in the race and it would be so damn cool if she wins it!
