Australia Changes Its Gun Laws and Sees Enormous Reduction in Deaths

Gun-related homicides have dropped in Australia by sixty to eighty percent.  Suicide by gun has dropped by sixty-five percent.  Thus far, there have been no reports of jack-booted government thugs breaking down the doors of the citizens to hurt or kill them and that is a paraphrase of what Wayne LaPierre of the NRA said would happen.  (CNN:  Howard: Yes, we were stunned by gun law effect)

When NRA propaganda is set aside and the government decides the well-being of the people is more important than the will of some manipulative hysterics, the reduction in slaughter from guns is substantive and convincing.  In fact, however, it is not the government making this decision but rather the Australian people as it is just as much of a democracy as the U.S. although the people appear to be rather more resilient to special interest propaganda.

There is no more conclusive proof you could ask than a practical demonstration of the result of the implementation of gun control and Australia has done it.  This also demonstrates that the NRA is doing nothing more than perpetuating an endless reign of terror and carnage by gun and that its purpose has nothing to do with serving the Second Amendment but rather it is an organisation that is serving the will of the NRA Board of Directors, many of the members of which own gun companies.

Please check your facts While I do not understand the need for gun ownership in this day and age. The aussies kill on average of 1 per 100000 per year. About the same average as in 2004.. While the Americans kill an average of 12 per 100000 per year just a hair shy of what they kill using vehicles. So while the Aussies dont kill each other as often the new laws have not been in effect long enough to be revelant
I would also venture to say that the culture of the USA leads to the moronic violence if not guns then another method would be used.
Other countries get mad at each other nad they go outside and "have a go" in the USA they kill each other

Not my facts but rather ex-Prime Minister John Howard's facts! That's not true about people substituting knives for guns as it's a whole different thing. There is no evidence I've seen that support any thinking that people will simply switch weapons.

I did not state switching weapons Aussies fust fighy outside the bar because the penalty for fighting in the bar is I believe 6mos mandatory. It is a different mentality compared to the younger generation.of USA who believe that killing is the only acceptable revenge And unfortunately is is starting to spread to the rest of the competitive world I am a better mass murderer than you
it is not the guns but the psyche You will lessen the accidental family deaths with fewer guns but not the revenge killers But st least that us a start first eliminate cheap hand guns then high volume clips

I really don't buy the generalisation about Americans believing killing as the only suitable type of revenge. The crack neighborhoods are deadly but that doesn't typify the mindset of the country as a whole. In any case, the crack killers and the serial killers are not representative of the killing as whole, much of which is a knee-jerk reaction to a shocking situation or a suicide.

I don't support private ownership of any kind of handguns. The original laws were written when the typical weapon was a long rifle or a shotgun, not handguns and particularly not handguns with high-capacity clips. If it takes thirteen shots to stop an assailant then presumably twelve of those shots went astray and who knows what they hit!
