"The Battle Song" (poem)

The Battle Song is the final battle in which Boudika dies:

(Short instrumental intro as Queen Boudicca enters)

(Queen Boudicca dances to tell the story of what happened to her and her people)

They came to take the children
They came to kill the King
There comes a time for fighting
and comes a time to sing.

Their shame ran to the river
in crying crimson tides
they lust for wanton slaughter
and now they'll pay the price.

(After first line, enter warriors through to the end of the chorus)

All you men stand with me
Bring your shields and your swords
We'll bloody all our weapons
rain death on the Roman horde.

(Chorus)

Sing your song of battle,
It's now time for revenge
We'll slay them where they're standing
in the shadow of Stonehenge.

(Instrumental break as warriors march into positions)

(Hut-2-3-4, Hut-2-3-4 as beat.  Musically there may not be much more than a snare drum coming from the stage just as if marching to battle.  Number of bars is dependent on time dance designers need to get the warriors into position)

(Hammerhead chords back into original pattern and combat continues through to the death of Boudicca.  When the chords come down on 1, fighting has to start in-sync and this will be cued from the stage after I see the warriors are in position.  Keep note of this for the Light Guy as well.  When the fighting starts there has to be smoke, lasers, crazy light changes, everything.)

We fought them in the fields,
and crushed them in their pride.
We gave no quarter and no mercy
and many Romans died.

We chased them back to London
and burned it to the ground.
When came the end of battle.
No Roman made a sound.

She sang her song of battle
and gave death in her cold rage
but a final arrow took her
and we lost her from the stage.

We sing the song of battle,
and we will take our cold revenge
We'll slay them where they're standing
in the shadow of Stonehenge

(Silas change up for short lead break as the warriors gather around the fallen Queen.  Same chords but soft.  After lead break, back to hammerhead chords to end.  Note for the Light Guy as we want to reflect the somber mood.)

(Silas change back to hammerhead chords to end.  Note to Light Guy to lose the lasers and smoke but we want residual smoke for "The Girl Who Would Be Lavender" to make it all spooky on the battlefield where she lies dead.)

We came and killed and the Romans
They ran but could not hide.
but the price we paid was heavy
Queen Boudicca has died.

In death she goes on singing
It's a song we'll sing inside.
She carried us to battle
until the invaders had all died.

We sang the song of battle,
We took our grim revenge
We slew them as they're standing
in the shadow of Stonehenge.

We sang the song of battle,
We took our grim revenge
We slew them as they're standing
in the shadow of Stonehenge.

(Outtro as surviving warriors leave the stage.  Queen Boudicca and other casualties stay in position until fade to black.  Before going into "The Girl Who Would Be Lavender," Boudicca needs a lavender garland and whatever else you decide for her outfit but the change has to be fast.  Note to Light Guy for need for smoke over the battlefield before starting "The Girl Who Would Be Lavender.")
