"The Moon in Diamonds" (poem)

Watching a crescent Moon of diamonds
writhing, blazing in the night
it changes as I watch it
and such a fearsome sight

It moves in many colors
as the facets twist around
at first it terrified
but always it astounds

In its ecstatic torment,
its fire and its pain,
it flashes some old story,
and it's come back again.

There's no drug or any salve
that will make it go away
and now it burns the night time
and comes back in the day

I don't care what it's telling
I don't know why it comes
It grows as I watch it
and dances to hidden drums

It feels I cannot stand it
as these diamonds I despise
and when it gets too much
I open up my eyes
