Sagrada Familia - Basilica in Barcelona, Spain (video)

The Sagrada Familia comes from a design by Antoni Guadi, a Spanish architect, who designed some incredible things and you can read more about it in the Wiki.

The video simulation can't reveal the detail of the interior and this picture shows the roof of the nave of the church in quite exquisite detail.  The supports were designed as trees.

Construction of Sagrada Familia has been underway for well over one hundred years as it began in 1882 and completion is anticipated for 2026.  Guadi did not start the project but he took it over in 1883 and continued until his death in 1926.

Part of my interest is due to the radical contrast with the obscene constructions of the American mega-churches that have a whole lot to do with money and conspicuous consumption and have very little to do with spirituality.  I don't mean to imply all Americans support those travesties as that isn't even close to true.  Many and perhaps most find them as obscene as do I.

My ol' Mother walked into one of the cathedrals in Europe, I don't know which one, and burst into tears at the beauty of it.  I can only imagine how this one might have affected her.
