Sonya Jevette and the "Big Girls" Song

While it may seem the same as last week in reporting Sonya Jevette sang at Cat Boucher's Art MusikCircus last night, Sonya's performances aren't the same from week to week.  In part this is because she is striving to write a new song a week in a Songwriter's Challenge and my note-taking failed on this one but I believe the name of the new one last night was "Everyone Dreams" and it was quite a lovely song.

One of the highlights of Sonya Jevette's show each week is the "Big Girls" song and she always makes it noteworthy by inviting people from the audience to dance with on-stage.  It's a wonderful song anyway and not just for the melody but also in the statement for women:  you better treat her right ... or you ain't gonna get none tonight.  That may seem a superficial statement but the song runs much deeper than that and you can hear in its entirety on Sonya Jevette's Web site.

That's the blog's own Yevette Nishi second from the right and she has been a regular around here for years.  This was her first time on the stage dancing with Medora and she was wearing a quite bloody outfit but, that's ok, dark clowns are welcome too!

From left to right, Medora Chevalier, Charolette McDaniel, Sonya Jevette, Icky Flux, Yevette Nishi, Kaia Shippe.

Regulars will probably notice that some of the people on the stage were up there last week as well and that shows you the entertainment in Sonya's show as Medora and Kaia come back week after week to enjoy it.  Medora always wears a smashing gown ... and she is always popping bubble gum during the song.  That may seem an odd combination but it's all part of the "Big Girls" song.

And Cat and I didn't dance this time because she couldn't be there.  However, it makes me feel quite swell to know that she doesn't get all stressed when she can't make it as she knows I will host it for her.
