The night opened at Cat's Art MusikCircus with Joaquin Gustav doing a classically beautiful and romantic set. He calls this set Healing Friday and there's no way anyone could be stressed by this performance.
Joaquin has a lovely delicate touch to his play and his music is always as romantic as one hopes Latin music will be. Most of the people in the audience were couples with the ladies wearing quite beautiful gowns and all of them dancing. Cat spends quite a bit of time finding the dances for the circus and they're spectacular!
Voodoo Shilton came back last night, as he does each week, and he plays with excellent technique in African, Cuban, Latin, gypsy jazz styles.
His guitar work was beautiful, as always, but what set this performance apart was his experimentation as he was curious to know how it would go if he read some poetry with his music backing it. This was exceptionally cool and I don't say because I like doing it also but rather because it's good to see him pushing his act out there. He is an exceptional guitar player but there are many in this world and applying his creative skills in every direction he can is what will make him stand out as an artist.
The poetic reading definitely stood out last night, in part because it was new in his set and in part because you can feel it when an artist takes a risk and it's always a good thing. Even if it doesn't work it's a good thing as you share that risk and that's beauty in itself. It worked very well last night and I hope he continues this and whatever other types of experimentation pop into his head.
At the end of the set, Voodoo brought out his Tetra Galactar and this time I got a picture of it:
This is definitely not a guitar for campfire songs! The audience was sucked right into it as he played and was obviously quite taken with the sound of it plus the technique with which he delivered it.
And Cat and I danced!
See, I told you she would be back!
