"Celtic Dawn" (poem)

The scene in Queen Boudika's Iceni village before the Romans came and as they start to arrive:

Before the rising sun this morning
the women tend the fires
They start tending to their cooking
as the rest begin to rise.

They go down to the river
fetching water for the day
They always walk in silence
as there's not so much to say.

Mothers wash their babies
and they squeal when they're wet.
Soft laughs rise to the tree line
and birds sing back in jest.

It's heaven in the valley
and they know just what they need.
The tribe has found its home here
far from Roman greed.

But there's a cadence in the distance.
They've not heard this sound before.
It's the Romans bringing justice
They've come to bring the law.
