Elon Musk Talks to Governor about Cars, Provincialism, and AI #Science

For the introduction, we know Elon Musk loves cars, loathes Artificial Intelligence, and no-one likes the provincialism of ineffectual feudalist pipsqueaks from the different states.  Musk probably did not phrase his comments that way, however.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk warned a bipartisan gathering of U.S. governors on Saturday that government regulation of artificial intelligence is needed because it's a "fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization."

OK, no sign of equivocation on that matter so AI is the end of us all.  Maybe so.

But first, he asked for some governors to lift a different kind of regulation: state franchise dealership laws that ban the direct sale of his company's electric cars to consumers.

States rights exist so America never, ever, has to make any decision on anything so good luck defeating the provincialism.  It worked the same in medieval times since the king only needed to ensure the nobles didn't exceed his power and then he could do whatever he wanted.  In a thousand years, society didn't evolve much.  Today we have kryptonite kings and custom-made ladies but they still think they're lords of all creation.

Musk didn't address such rules in his public remarks, but he did speak about regulation generally—and reiterated his long-held argument that it is needed soon to protect humanity from being outsmarted by computers, or "deep intelligence in the network" that can start wars by manipulating information.

Pressed for more specific guidance by Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, Musk said the first step is for government to get a better understanding of the fast-moving achievements in developing artificial intelligence technology.
"Once there is awareness, people will be extremely afraid, as they should be," Musk said.

It's not clear whether Musk is talking about Bluffdale, UT, where the NSA built their monstrous data center to violate just about every known law of the free world.  It's also not clear where the CIA does the data processing for their malignant purposes other than in Langley, VI, but, in concert, the CIA and NSA have been manipulating the American public with FUD with joyous abandon and a complete disregard for humanity.

All in all, the lack of specificity as to what aspect of AI or direction AI is taking doesn't permit us to go all that far with reviewing his position.  As to stopping AI, it's probably impossible, at least in America.

Governors don't matter and won't ever matter.
