Going from an occasional user of marijuana to a weekly or daily user increases an adolescent's risk of having recurrent psychotic-like experiences by 159%, according to a new Canadian study published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. The study also reports effects of marijuana use on cognitive development and shows that the link between marijuana use and psychotic-like experiences is best explained by emerging symptoms of depression.

Science Daily:  Marijuana and vulnerability to psychosis

In fifty years of marijuana smoking, I've never seen a psychotic reaction in someone smoking marijuana.  My sample size includes countless people in many locations and, just as today, people frequently went psychotic with soulsucker drugs such as meth, speed, PCP, or coke but not typically with anything else and never with the ganja.  There was some potential for psychotic behavior with LSD but not all that much.

Believe whatever you like, tho, since "science" advised us in the 60s LSD breaks our chromosomes but there's not one of you trip monkeys who ever delivered green children with eyes on stalks.

The interested student is advised to do whatever you like without concern regarding old cranks but do be sure you recognize conservative case building when you see it or you will just become a customer of psychiatry rather than a student of it.

I believe tne chromosonal damage was started by tbe goverment since it was a drug they were using in experiments.
Your personal sample size does not include 13 to 16 year old adolescents or with the powerful weed of today.
A sample size of 4000 is rather significant. The only flaw that I see is using a baseline of students from different countries

Your comments of never seen and never with ganja. Absolutes ate almost always incorrect.
But you are talking of your DOC

That's been my experience and there's been a lot of it. Fair enough that they weren't smoking high-test reefer in the 60s but I've seen quite a number smoke it today without zero psychosis as well. I'm well aware my evidence is anecdotal; nevertheless, that's what I saw.

You saw how they promoted that with LSD in that they used it as a fear tactic to scare people away from it. As you saw, it didn't work since such tactics hardly ever do work.

So you see a large number of 13 years old smoke weed on a regular basis as in the study. And followed them for the next 5 years though high school.
Somehow I don't believe that.
I don't believe you have smoked or followed 12 year old in 45 or 50 years.

Seems to me it is a valid study that deserves more research.
I see many benefits of weed by products. Tinkerbell uses a creme to lessen her seizures and it seems to be very beneficial.
As With most mood altering chemicals it looks like age limits based on maturation of the individual needs to be addressed

To the first part, I saw an article earlier in which a bunch of late teens ate Gummy bears with some type of ganja extract in them. About eleven of them got sick so I ask right away how strong are they making this things. Maybe the situation is kids effectively OD because they buzz up so fast on concentrates they can't keep any control and then get sick.

What I want most of all is level-headed research and the same with hemp since banning that one just makes no sense at all.
