Searching for Your Fears ... and Finding Them

Many friends look at the Internet largely as a source of fear.  They go off to research vaccinations and instead receive phony information from concentrated piles of leprous skank like Alex Jones whose only purpose is to create fear because it makes him money.  They go off to find what ISIS really means and get nothing but Third Reich hyperbole from politicians.  They go off to research just about anything and discover, what do you know, we're all going to die.

The fear has become so pervasive that people seek it out to sustain it and thus it grows, the fifth column that eats the hearts of these people.

If you seek fear, you will find it.  If you are already afraid then the Internet will fulfill every fear you can possibly imagine and show you depravity you never would have thought anyone could even consider.  Sure you can find that but why do you look for it.

There are lots of valid reasons to be afraid ... but people don't pay much attention to them.  For example, cigarette smoking and obesity are guaranteed to kill you but people keep gaining weight and many still smoke cigarettes.  They're terrified of ISIS and they'll tell you all about it ... when we meet up at McDonald's later and maybe smoke some cigarettes after.  Maybe this makes sense to you but it makes no sense to me at all.

Fear is the mindkiller.  It's the litany of the Bene Gesserit but there is immense truth in it.  Fear only seeks one thing:  more of it.  Only through rejection of the fear can you ever rise above it.  Fear is absolutely the mindkiller.

The reason I was successful with mainframes was because I wasn't afraid of them.  These are the huge machines that fill a quite large room and they do look terrifying but they're still just machines.  If you stay fully cognizant of your capabilities and don't overstep them then you'll likely never have any trouble with computers because you know what you can fix and what needs more support.

This is and always will be a world for John Lennon and people like him.  Alex Jones will be forgotten the next time someone empties the cat's litter box but John Lennon will be remembered for a very long time.  And that is the difference between love and fear.  Your fear only lasts long enough to get rid of it but love is forever.  No matter what you do, it will never go away.  Yah, Alia cheated on you but you still love her, don't you, Duncan.

(Ed:  Duncan Idaho from Dune?)

Of course.

I thought the littany was a cure for fear

Sure, give in to the fear and it will freeze your mind so let the fear pass through you.
