It Doesn't Look Too Good for the New England Patriots - Science

Look at the bright side since New England will be insufferable if the Patriots win again.  (Science Daily:  Atlanta Falcons predicted to win Super Bowl)

Contrary to your early suspicion the paper came from the University of Pittsburgh rather than anywhere in Georgia.

The Atlanta Falcons will defeat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 51.  This prediction comes from a University of Pittsburgh researcher who backs his claim with seven years of National Football League (NFL) data and statistics.

"Increasingly, we are seeing NFL coaches and executives embracing analytics to improve their overall knowledge of the game and give them data-driven competitive advantages over their opponents.  I believe this study is yet another step in that direction," said Konstantinos Pelechrinis, an associate professor in Pitt's School of Information Sciences.

Say there, Konnie, buddy, it's only a step in that direction if the Falcons win.  Right now, without the spread, it's not even a bet.

"When faced with, let's say, a fourth-and-1 from an opponent's 25-yard line, conventional football wisdom says a field-goal attempt -- potentially resulting in three points -- would be a coach's best option.  The research shows that continuing to pursue a touchdown -- eventually resulting in six to eight points -- would be best for maximizing this scoring opportunity as well as the overall goal of winning the game," Pelechrinis said.

Ed:  that sounds like Robo Coach!

It sure does.  Have a ball with that dream, huh?

In the golden future, we can have Robo Coaches and Robo Players so no-one even has to suit up for a game anymore.

Ed:  the tickets will still be ridiculously expensive.

Yep, only robos will be able to afford them.

He should be very rich if he could accurately predict outcomes. He wiuld only need to be right 51% of the time against the spread to be very rich. He could then sell that service or run one of the casini sports books.
But casinos already have far better analytical programs and skill thst this person.
He also might wamt to look to the Oaklands As who years ago used tje statics of e players to make lineup changes and draft players. Billy Beane went on to the many playoff with that strategy even though he had one of the lowest payrolls and no real "star" players
I suggest he watch the movie Moneyball

I'm not hearing he's rousing any great fear for the Patriots (larfs).

How about the future game with Humans vs Robos in Mechano Bowl 2050. We should be able to make "Rollerball" look like a Shirley Temple movie!
