Yosemite 10.10.3 and Final Cut 10.2 Approach Stability

Testing to identify the source of the failure in OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 and Final Cut 10.2 moved expeditiously but deliberately through Sunday.  Testing had one small problem:  it did not fail.  That may seem like goodness as all you want is for your computer to be as reliable as a kitchen toaster or, failing that, at least no worse than a car.

However, when a failure takes place and it is not possible to duplicate it then it is also not possible to identify the source and fix it.  That means, chill'uns, it will come back at some unpredictable time.

That is exactly the circumstance and you may be appalled at a complaint that I have not been able to duplicate a failure after a period that was a nightmare filled with them but ... well ... that's exactly the lament and you'll hear it from any systems programmer in this circumstance.

The process has been as methodical and boring as systems programming has to be.  Change something, observe for effect, and, barring malfunction, repeat until all equipment is up and running. You can't beat this system as you will only condemn yourself to repeating it until you get it right if you try to be a wise guy and get around it.

So, telling you there is a mystery is not news as the world is full of them.  The fact of it is the system is as stable as it was prior to installing Yosemite 10.10.3 / Final Cut 10.2 and it appears there's some unusual combination of external devices that will break it but discovering precisely what that combination might be has been elusive.

(Ed:  are you seriously complaining?)

Like bloody hell I am.  This is fantastic even beyond all kinds of wonderful as the system eats up the laptop like it's a Checker cab in a Formula 1 race.  It boots in thirty seconds or less while the laptop takes endless minutes.  The new used iMac doesn't just do things faster than the laptop, it blows that loyal li'l trouper right out of the Universe in doing things that one can't possibly do.

Nooooo, I am not complaining.  I'm mystified at present but it's a good mystery to have.  Just why is this system going so incredibly fast without exploding.

(Ed:  call me when it explodes.  Then we can talk.)

Deal.  For now there is no further news on the subject.  Feel free to color me ecstatic.  Recent weeks have sucked like trying to get water from sand but the last few days were incredibly productive and now the sun shines again ... although not in Fort Worth where it appears there will be thunderstorms until Hell freezes.  Since Rick Perry lives here, that will probably not take too long but that's not a concern for the moment as the new used iMac is singing like it knows what it's doing.

(Ed:  water from sand?  Have you been to Dune again?)

God created Arrakis to test the faithful.  If your act is worse than they've got it then you probably ought to kiss it good-bye.  I love Dune and I'll never get tired of reviewing the different versions of it.
