Ronald Reagan and the Rape of Social Security - Updated

Actually when things really started getting bad was April 20, 1983, when Ronald Reagan and Alan Greenspan raped the Social Security Reserve for $2.7 trillion and never put it back.  The Social Security Reserve was a self-funding organization with no relationship to the federal budget but Reagan pushed the money into the budget's general fund and Americans never saw it again ... except as fighter planes which have no application (e.g. F-22 and F-35).

Note:  the only action ever seen by the F-22 or the F-35 was for photo ops.  Not bad for aircraft which cost $134 million a copy.  Why screw around, the military arms bought a hundred of them to start.

Update:  cost per copy for F-35.

David Stockman's part in this was rigging the budget forecasts to make it look like Reagan's budget cuts would work without shortfalls.  Even the Mafia couldn't have done it so smoothly.  As we've seen, nothing but shortfalls have come ever since.  (Fedsmith: Ronald Reagan and The Great Social Security Heist)

Note:  there are many resources to confirm what they did.  This isn't sci-fi.

Every time I hear Hinckley's name, I think goddamn you.  If you were a better shot, you could have stopped all this.  It was only sixty days into Reagan's administration and Hinckley could have stopped the largest theft in all human history, one that has not been repaid to this day.

Here at the Rockhouse, we love jewel thieves.  However, we do not admire abuse of power which guts the foundation of a system built for the people of the country, particularly when the purpose of that gutting is to implement military programs which benefit no-one except the rich.  Such is the way of the GOP and so will it always be ... until it's in the same jail cell as the other terrorists.

What roles Reagan, Greenspan, and Stockman played in this crime, assuming you claim any knowledge of how the country got this way, should be well-known to you.  Amazingly enough, welfare mothers had nothing to do with it.
