Lefty Unplugged, ever the trouper, came to Cat's Art MusikCircus tonight with extensive leakage of a nasal variety. Fortunately, the picture I shot doesn't reveal any of this!
It was most unusual as you could tell his man-cold had come back on him when he talked but not at all when he sang. I guess we need a TV doctor to explain that ... or better yet, don't explain it!
Lefty played several quite beautiful originals but then he decided they weren't enough fun and he ripped into Steve Earle's "Copperhead Road," a song about moonshiners. After that was "Man in White" as he has always got some kind of pill that will make everything alright, just turn your head off and it will all fade away. After that came the song that really got me as he was just playing an instrumental off the top of his head. He laid down a soft base of chords and then played some electric lead over the top of it, and then started moving through different changes that were delicate and beautiful all the way. It was a marvelous piece and I'm pretty sure he didn't even give it a name.
One of the most beautiful parts of the evening was I said something about magic and Lefty said it takes more than one person to make it, magic cannot happen by yourself and he said further that there's a special magic at Cat's Art MusikCircus. He said I would know and I do that you can get so tripped-out on what you're playing and you work up stuff by yourself but it doesn't really become magical until you share it. In taking you really don't wind up with anything but, as Bob Seeger sang, 'every ounce of energy you try to give away' and that's what makes the magic as people at the MusikCircus appreciate so much the gift and so much give it back.
And Cat and I ...
saw Eliza Cabassoun on the overhead ring! (Yes, of course Cat and I danced but not just yet!)
Elegance in motion!
And Cat and I ...
watched February Jinx fly to the Moon!
Who knew flying to the Moon could be so comfortable!
And, yes, of course Cat and I danced!
I wanted to surprise Cat by changing into a kilt but she surprised me when she didn't change hers so we wound up wearing the same thing (laughs). Tell me we're not cuter than a bug's ear! (Yes, that's another American expression that Europeans will never understand but that's because Americans don't know what it means either.)
Magic!
