The objective today is to take Cat to Chlemoutsi Castle and to take you all along with us. However, the weather forecast and the reality don't seem to be in good correspondence. It was supposed to be bright and sunny today and I'm sure it is quite sunny ... above the clouds. Getting soaked during a ride to Pyrgos is one thing as, no matter how wet it gets, I'll be out of it in ten minutes or so. Getting soaked forty or fifty kilometers from here is a whole different thing.
Here's a picture from within Chlemoutsi Castle:
I didn't shoot the picture. Note the signature by George Trakakis. You can see more of his work at ImagePro.
So Chlemoutsi Castle is much more than piles of tumbled-down rocks but it's also nowhere near as old as Olympia. Nevertheless, it's been there for well over a thousand years as it was built by the Franks during one of the Crusades. The interested student is invited to determine why in the world one would go through this part of Greece on the way to Jerusalem. It doesn't seem to make much sense.
America is very young and it's so desperate for history that it will make a monument out of a rock just because George Washington tied his horse to it. That kind thing is pretty silly but it's charming as well. In a millennium or so America will have a Chlemoutsi Castle of its own.
So I'll take care of business for a while. I need to feed the Reservoir Cats and of course I do as they have guns. Hopefully the sun will come and then I'll get to riding.
