Road Trip to Chlemoutsi Castle w/Map

Chlemoutsi Castle is one of the best-preserved of the ruins from the Middle Ages.  It was built by the Franks during one of the Crusades and it was continuously occupied until a couple of hundred years ago, albeit by various powers as it was taken and retaken many times over the centuries.  The Castle is about forty-five kilometers from here so that just screams ROAD TRIP!

Point A is Agios Andreas.  I don't actually live in Katakolon but rather a couple of kilometers from it.
Point B is Chlemoutsi Castle.

Andravida is the location of a military airfield and your guess is as good as mine as to why in the world Greece needs an air force and particularly why they're out playing Top Gun almost every day of the week!  If it were America, I'd guess CNN was telling of the credible evidence of an invasion by Italy but Greeks aren't stupid that way; they don't believe the government and they sure as hell don't believe CNN.

To the right is Pyrgos / Pirgos which I've mentioned many times.  How one really spells it is anybody's guess but it doesn't matter to Greeks as they don't use this alphabet anyway.

Forty-five kilometers isn't all that far but it's still the longest expedition I've tried yet.  It's one thing to roam the U.S. in a Sprinter as that ol' truck could go around the world without even working up a sweat but riding a scooter and running over unfamiliar roads which are usually just two lanes and sometimes in not such great shape can be an interesting challenge.

But Cat loves adventures and so do I.  Today and tomorrow are out as Pol Arida will do a special show at the MusikCircus tomorrow so that leaves Sunday.  It doesn't look like rain that day so this may just happen.  The object, as before, will be to get pictures and video as I love taking Cat on road trips and you all can come too; it's just that she is the only one who can sit on the back!

You can find a bit more about Chlemoutsi Castle at my Katakolon News site.
