After reviewing side-by-side video shot by a GoPro Hero 3 and a Sony HDR AS-15, my feeling was the Sony image was warmer, had better low-light capture, and was generally better for colors. It also seems to have quite good flexibility and it's less than the GoPro at about $145 (plus SD card and head strap). That was a most interesting surprise.
The author of the video complains about noise in the Sony image on the left but I was watching in full-screen and I don't see it. This is a 15" laptop screen so it's hardly a reference monitor, tho. The image on the right is a GoPro Hero 3 which is significantly more than the Hero model.
Looks like a strong shift toward Sony and with extras it's about the same amount of money.
