This isn't the best portrait of a honey bee you will ever see but it's the first I've seen in someone's yard in years! They were all over the place and so many you could hear them buzzing together. This is a lovely thing as I remember it being like this in any patch of clover when I was a kid but the Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) has taken a severe toll on honey bees in North America, I gather in Germany and elsewhere as well. However, honey bees appear to be doing quite well in Greece! It was a wonderful thing to see so many of them out there!
There is evidence that Varroa mites are responsible for CCD but this appears to be one of many causes and pesticides have been implicated as well. If you like eating then you will pay heed to this as the crops need to be pollinated and there's no way a machine can do it. There seems to be hysteria over pretty much every damn thing today but I'm not hysterical, I simply observe. My request is that others do the same.
