The Catholic Church Finds Its Easter Bunny

Easter Bunnies are cute but whether one can end the egregious hypocrisy inherent in the culture of the Catholic pulpit remains to be seen.  (CNN:  Pope Francis, the Pontiff of Firsts, Breaks Tradition)

This is a Church that condemns homosexuality while practicing it on a wide-scale within the Catholic ministry.  That practice isn't surprising as the sequestering of males must be very attractive to gay men of faith, particularly those who are troubled.

Moreover, the condemnation of homosexuality is all the more hypocritical given the hysterical condemnation of gay marriage.  How can anyone proclaim love and at the same time reject its practice.

I have a friend whom I will call only Reverend Bill and I knew him in the Army.  He was a good and gentle man, obviously gay, and he went into the priesthood after his enlistment ended.  Where else will a gay man be safer from the rampant harassment in society than in an organization that so loudly rejects sexuality.  That this is the same organization that has fostered so much of that harassment is one of the supreme ironies of our time.

Inasmuch as priestly pedophilia has probably been taking place for centuries, eliminating it will remain a formidable challenge and hopefully the new Easter Bunny will be substantially more aggressive in combating it than were his predecessors.

In a poll on CNN, sixty-five percent of respondents agreed that it is time for female priests and of course it is.  The culture of female subordination is yet another travesty of a Church that lost touch with reality a long, long time ago.

There is yet another irony in the Catholic Church as it is one of the most progressive in its pursuit of scientific knowledge in supporting research into evolutionary theory, the origin of the Universe, and other matters of fundamental interest to theology and a relationship to the Divinity.  This pursuit of enlightenment is in substantial contrast to other faiths and is one of the greatest hopes for survival of the Church.

It is my fervent hope that the current election glee and excitement over the new Pope is more than just a media Easter egg hunt and that there is a true revolution within the Church such that it ends its domination of women as I strongly believe this will take kilometer steps toward eliminating its other problems thereby permitting a true Age of Enlightenment.

With all sincerity, I wish Pope Francis well, for his sake and for the sake of all of us.
