Alternatives to the Way of Saint James

The regulars already know the background on the Way of Saint James and Mystery Lady has been quite clear with don't you fookin' do that, wise guy.

It would be high school wimbly wambly to use Mystery Lady's protestations as a reason to decline but she makes a fair point.  Even though the difficulty is less than she imagines, there are other reasons it's not such a great idea.

There are problems behind that, tho, since you scratch a whole lot of things once you give up the idea of, what the fuck, everybody dies sometime.  That justification is sufficient for just about everything and throwing it away for the idea, well, maybe it's better to take just a bit of care of yourself may not be such a good idea.  We can always come up with reasons not to do something and humans may do that better than anything else so the right move is questionable at the best of times.

There's some potential for being a Day Tripper and you can get all nostalgic about Beatles songs but, frankly, we never looked at the lyrics and don't know what they meant.  The sweet boys liked the Beatles and no-one wanted to be one of those.  They weren't gay, they were just sweet.

Day Tripper possibilities are first to the North maybe three hours near Amarillo with Palo Duro Canyon and that's a deeply spiritual place which was the ancestral home for many Indians.  The Army came and no Indians have lived there since but Palo Duro remains their home nevertheless.  Georgia O'Keefe knew that and she painted there frequently.

The canyon is relatively level and would be not at all bad for low-impact hiking.  While the view doesn't reveal the stark beauty of the Matterhorn or some such, there is beauty nevertheless only in more subtle ways.

The Day Tripper idea is like part of a continuum since doing one lightly assumes there will be another whereas the Way of Saint James or my approach to it was there wouldn't be anything after that.  From that perspective, one is entertainment and the other may be spiritual.  That's a ridiculous level of binary polarization but it's still the general view of it.

It Has To Mean Something, don'tcha know.

(Ed:  so how about you climb fookin' Mt Everest as all kinds of hobby boys croak themselves up there!)

Well, we can strike that one and probably swimming to Cuba as well.

(Ed:  you could build a raft and sail to Africa!)

The currents and prevailing winds go the other way but, apart from that, great idea.

Something which may confound this is you can see in a video I don't much run out of air from yapping so how is hiking a problem.  I don't understand that either but the fact remains I'll run out of air quickly with much activity.  Since I can do the trek around the market so long as I take it slowly and I'm mostly supporting myself with the shopping cart, my thinking is I would be ok for a slow hike so long as I have a reasonably good walking stick.

The ongoing round-de-round on this continues but it's a pleasant exercise and it will come to some kind of resolution because I detect boredom in people which reaches stratospheric levels and I'm quite sure that's not simply my own projection.  Sure I'm bored but I'm not the only one.

The biggest live thought of this moment is I must play a live set on the Eighteenth and it has to be at 5pm Texas Time.  If this will happen then it makes sense to take a whack with YouTube Live to broadcast video rather than audio alone for Second Life streaming.

Note:  that time / date is fixed by architecture and there is great juju of a highly positive nature behind that specifically.

(Ed:  does everything have to be a kozmik trip with you?)

Yes.  wtf, you asked (larfs).

Nothing is set and this is only a drug-addled velleity at the moment but there is actually will and that from the Legend of Paul Delph from whom we learned playing when your body is jacked all to hell can be the best of all.

Should I commit, the Laws of the Gig come into play and they tell us the gig must happen even if you do break a leg because, wtf, so long as it doesn't poke through the skin, wrap it up and get out on the stage.

Note:  there's no chance for YouTube Live unless I can use a secondary cam rather than the one built into the laptop since its view of the Rockhouse is limited.  Some review necessary on that but not for the idea of a live set and definitely at the MusikCircus.

Or step it up a notch but not having to sell your kit to do it:

The Grand Canyon--took my breath away! Tears streaming down my face when I saw it! Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
The mule trip may just be the thing. Feets have no fear!
The site is great! Beautiful pic of rock formation--elephant? on Facebook page, also Omnimax there on site show a 35 min movie to show you what you miss not going full out cowboy!! Oh yea-Facebook-supervised night hike--the sky is unbelievable!

Thank you and I feel the beauty of it but I never got any better with heights. I've seen that transparent overlook plus that trail to the bottom and the immediate reaction for me is No Way in Hell (larfs).

For me that is Big League terrifying! I love the gorgeosity of it but fear takes an easy win (larfs).

Palo Duro is nowhere near so grand but it has a lovely taste of the colors. I talked to Cadillac Man about that one. Part of the thinking is about finding anything but I'm really not looking except for seeing more of what's interesting about being alive. (It's also easy to get to the bottom of it!)

Texas is way, way too hot for hiking anywhere just now but this is some scoping for what's possible.

The bridge is breathtaking. The GC is just as impressive from the top looking down as it is from the water looking up.
Check out the UTAH FIVE for hiking parks with awesome feeling.
PS even the Mrs Lotho and the Fairy Princess walked the bridge

Looking up is definitely the preferred way. For me any kind of height means wherever I'm standing is slanted and, oh no, I'm going to fall.

Utah is not terribly far and there's some beautiful country up there.

PS it doesn't bother me to be a pussy about it. Big heights and / or horror movies scare the living hell out of me and I won't watch the latter either.

Uh oh ... it just came. Walking the Giant Redwoods shouldn't be arduous and that would be kozmikal beyond all words. There's a whole lot of thinking about what's possible vs what's practical and that's a fur piece to get there but possibly possible.

Wheels are turning on that one.

Hello Lotho! I was standing at the top of the south rim GC when the tears started streaming and it really occurred to me Yes! there is a God! Are you speaking about Zion? So many National Parks--some not so well known. I'm gonna check it out the Utah Five. ML

The emotion you feel in the face of compelling beauty is one of the loveliest things about you as I also remember when you saw the huge AT&T Impressionist collection in Washington for that once-only show and you burst into tears the moment you walked into the gallery and saw them.

That really struck me and the memory from it is strong as ever even when you know how long ago that must have been.

Must jot it while the thought hangs as there's the Craters of the Moon National Park which, I believe, is generally upper Midwest but more to the Western side somewhere. It wouldn't be much for vegetation but it seems the coolest of coolness for shooting video.

Ah, win the stake for the stroll. Now there's a good plan.

Thanks again Lotho--I have noticed with all the "Packages"- the flight is out of Las Vegas. Did you happen to do the train from that little town Williams? Love trains-always have! Looking at web stuff on that "Sky Bridge"--thats on the Western side--I watch a PBS on the building of that bridge. Wow!! You can keep Florida--give me the WEST any day!! ML
