Sonya Jevette Gets Her Wobbly Dancing

If getting wobbly doesn't sound sexy to you then you have never been to a Sonya Jevette concert!

Although she dresses country, she doesn't sound like it.  She sings some songs from people you would classify as country such as Wynonna Judd but she also covers Adele or Bill Withers.  While ordinarily I don't have any particular use for cover songs,  Sonya Jevette doesn't just learn the chords and do some lame solo copy of a song, instead she will do the guitar work but she will add a lead line she devises and she will sing the song in her own phrasing.   That's what why I call her cover of "Hotel California" the only non-suck version I have heard of it since The Eagles originally recorded it.  When anyone does a hack job on an acoustic guitar, I only wonder where is the rest of the band.  The way Sonya does it, she doesn't need a 'rest of the band.'

And of course she did the "Big Girls" song!

From left to right, Ainthe Teardrop, Cowboy Kid, Sonya Jevette, Cat Boucher, Silas Scarborough

Ainthe and Cowboy were really good sports about it as they didn't know what to expect and they went for it anyway.  I asked if it would be ok to post their pics on the blog.  They were good sports about that too so here they are.  Thank you, Ainthe and Cowboy!

You can learn more about Sonya and listen to her songs at the Sonya Jevette Web site and one of the things it will give you is the chance to hear the "Big Girls" song in a full band arrangement.

And, yep, Cat and I kept on dancing!

Isn't Cat's dress gorgeous!  You can see Ainthe Teardrop and Cowboy Kid again and they're just behind us with Sonya Jevette in the background on the stage.  It was another wonderful night at Cat's Art MusikCircus!
