"But It's Christmas" (poem)

The children are all playing
in glittered fields of snow.
Darling, this is Christmas
and not a time to go.

There always are good reasons
for taking leave at any time
but never during Christmas
it's too big a hill to climb.

The love is here
There is no fear
except to live alone
but now you go
and I don't know
what happened to our home.

We waited for the Christmas Eve
These people are such fun
all walk with such slow purpose
all feel it just as one.

No-one is competing
No-one seeks a better lot
These are all the people
Who are happy with what we've got.

The love is here
There is no fear
except to live alone
but now you go
and I don't know
what happened to our home.

But it's Christmas
and please don't you go
The bells all are ringing
but now this song I do not know.

The children are all playing
in glittered fields of snow.
Darling, this is Christmas
and not a time to go.

(I will never forget)
