"The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" - Spaghetti Masterpiece

The sci-fi theme has drifted a wee bit and it worked well taking a look at "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" as there's some brilliant moviemaking in it.  Sergio Leone was the King of the Spaghetti Westerns and people hooted at them but they are damn good.

The knock-out close-ups of the actors is gorgeous as he really wants you to get tight with them rather than just 'the men in the posse' or so.  Many times character development is lacking in movies, particularly in Westerns, but Leone went for those incredibly tight close-ups so you know every mole on this person.

Leone also brought surf guitars into it as music for Westerns previously was usually horrendous cowboy music that even the horses didn't want to hear.  The surf guitars in the movie made a radical change and segments from the soundtrack ended up on the hit parade because they were so engaging.

Tarantino had to have seen and heard what Leone did and perhaps that influenced his decision later to use all-out surf rock in his movies.

There are so many awards for this one.

Most Twisted Gunfight in Any Kind of Movie

The three-way standoff between Eli Wallach, Lee Van Cleef, and Clint Eastwood was cinema brilliance.

Most Twisted Ending for a Western

Leaving Eli Wallach balancing with a noose around his neck on a wobbly cross used for a grave marker is just about as evil as you can get.

(Ed:  where's the Christmas?)

It would have worked out as a cheap gift DVD but Saint Nicholas has already come and (sniff) gone.
