Wake Up and Smell the Wisteria

My ol' Mother would have loved this.  She grew a single planting of wisteria all the way up the side of a three-storey house and it wasn't her best idea as the house didn't like it much but it did look pretty cool.  What I never noticed so much was the scent of it, tho.

Here's a planting of wisteria, Greek-style:

The scent of the wisteria was everywhere and I could even pick it up as I rode past.  Yep, she would have loved it!

The purpose of this ride, other some infuriating nonsense with the department of motor vehicles (e.g. the third try will be on Sunday), was to take Cat to the beach but I kept noticing things along the way.

I apologise for the hideous wires but this was the only angle that showed the unique styling of a Greek Orthodox church.  People don't make any big show of it but there's a deep spirituality here.  I know there's also some deep resentment of Christianity for trying to usurp the philosophy of the ancients but that's for Greeks to resolve.  The commitment seems much deeper here and it's certainly religion that's more than a Facebook fashion show with such inane postings as 'If God is not in your corner, you are in the wrong corner.'  (I haven't actually seen that posted but it's typical of the inane drivel that passes for religion on there)

Church of Agia Marina Ilioupoleos

It's a unique style of architecture and I've been intrigued each time I have seen one.  My background is the American approach where they build utter obscenities in their large-scale suburban churches.  The Catholics make a pretty good go of it with some of their cathedrals but overall American churches seem more insulting of religion than salutary.

But, yes, we did finally get to the beach!

I had been hoping to find some cafe / restaurants here to photograph for my Katakolon News map but they were not to be found.  I really do look at a map before I go but I don't have one with me and I don't have a GPS so these rides are all improv, all the time!

Katakolon is in the far distance and it's probably about fifteen kilometers from this point.  You may make out a rise on the left side on the horizon and that's the island of Zakynthos.

It's extremely windy out there and I went very close to the water so I was getting the spray from it and I was really diggin' that!  This wasn't just a ride but it was 25C / 77F out there so it was a nicely warm ride and the spray felt great!

Her wisteria never bloomed. It wasnt until I moved here that I discovered wisteria must have a horizontal element to trigger the blooms Kind of like man needs to get horizontal every once in awhile
