Dwight Eisenhower is showing up more and more as the best President since FDR and the ones typically regarded as the gods of the second half of the Twentieth Century were rather less than deities. As reviewed yesterday, Kennedy was 'the buck' when Kissinger orchestrated the assassination of Salvador Allende. There is some greyness on this as Allende was assassinated in 1961 and that's the same year Eisenhower passed 'the buck' to Kennedy. However, an additional consideration is that Nixon was Eisenhower's Vice President and, as we saw, he didn't have the morality of a blood-sucking leech.
It is not my purpose to find the 'good guys' and undermine them. The second phrase is not significant. My only purpose is to find the good guys and Eisenhower specifically opposed McCarthyism. He also took active steps to stop it, invoking executive privilege for this purpose. (WIKI: Dwight D Eisenhower)
Eisenhower warned against all the things that have plagued America ever since his administration:
- Massive military spending
- Deficit spending for the military, particularly to private contractors
- Military / Industrial complex
- and so on
All the things so-called 'modern liberals' take for granted, Eisenhower, a Republican, opposed. He was half of the win in WWII so he damn sure earned his right to speak and he damn sure knew what was happening.
So it's tough to get a clear ruling on who sent Kissinger to kill Allende. Any one of three could have done it: Eisenhower, Nixon, or Kennedy. It's looking more and more that Kennedy didn't have time but the idiotic Bay of Pigs invasion kills his contention for the best anyway.
Most important is that Eisenhower stood strongly by true Republican principles than anyone since. Goldwater is another high-principled Republican but he was less than a diplomat and he got tagged with the idea of starting a nuke war, not a good thing in the sixties. Goldwater warned strongly against permitting excessive influence by the church in the Republican Party but you see how well anyone listened to that.
The reason for writing the current is that LBJ was a contender for an Honorable Mention for his work on Civil Rights. However, that goes immediately out the window due to Klaus Barbie, a NAZI known as the 'Butcher of Lyon,' and he was such a cold-blooded bastard that he sent a bunch of Jewish kids from an orphanage to a death camp. (WIKI: Klaus Barbie)
The reason Barbie is significant is Che Guevara was assassinated in Bolivia in 1967, during the course of LBJ's term. The CIA did it but there is good evidence they were assisted by Klaus Barbie. Guevara was in Bolivia to try to overthrow the right-wing dictatorship and the US violently opposed Marxism so they took him out, same reason they took out Allende and who knows how many others.
The question is how Barbie, a well-known NAZI, ever got to Bolivia and the answer is American and West German help. The French wanted him to execute him for his war crimes but Americans wanted him for his opposition to Marxism. American and German hands are dirty in this context but a few years after the war he emigrated to Bolivia as what better home for a NAZI than a Fascist dictatorship.
This reflects back to Eisenhower as it needs to be known how much he supported or knew of what was being done with Barbie. Since he was 'the buck,' I have to assume he knew and he considered the threat of Marxism greater than having a NAZI on the loose. Perhaps. This is just conjecture as I don't really know the detail of why Barbie wasn't immediately turned over for trial in France or Nuremburg.
While mishandling of NAZI war criminals was fairly common, it's not of high interest in this context as my interest is who ordered the assassination of Guevara and that's when LBJ was 'the buck.'
The only other contender remaining is Jimmy Carter for the best since FDR and the basis for that was documented previously, primarily his work toward Middle East peace and how well it worked.
The pattern of interference in the regimes of other countries is clear and is so blatant in the modern day that the White House doesn't even make a secret of doing it. They do, however, continue making a secret of who they assassinate and why.
Sometimes you will hear of a 'shadow government' but it appears more and more the shadow government is the one we see and the one that operates in the background is unsupervised, unregulated, and absolutely illegal. This is the one that destroyed American integrity and is why America can't be trusted (e.g. it does business with Hussein for forty years ... then kills him. it does business with Qaddafi for forty years and then kills him).
It is not my purpose simply to bash America as the country stood for something with Eisenhower but a whole lot of people need to ask themselves damn hard just what it stands for now.
Note: if you've got some dirt on Eisenhower, I'm not sure I even want to hear it. If even he was corrupt then ... well ... fuck it. What do you do.
