Eisenhower and the American Dream

Eisenhower has been mentioned here multiple times for espousing a position that truly reflected American values (i.e. integrity, trust, innovation, etc).  The Presidents since then have estimable, at best, but Eisenhower was precise in his specification:  pay the bills and don't build a lot of military crap you don't need.

My respect for Eisenhower is, in part, based on the lack of it for others.  People talk frequently of 'American values' but there is little evidence anyone knows what they are.  Eisenhower was clear and he earned that clarity as hard as anyone ever did.

The problem is that I do not see how it is possible to isolate Eisenhower from the assassination by Kissinger and the CIA of Salvador Allende.  Although Kennedy did some really stupid things and I can believe he would have ordered it, there does not seem to have been time between when he took office and the assassination took place.

It is not my purpose to assassinate Eisenhower and that's actually the least desirable goal.  I would like to believe, well, at least there's a good one once in a while.  It's appearing more and more the problem isn't so much the Presidents but rather what the CIA does to them as every single major problem of the last half century or so has had CIA involvement and they won't even tell you their agenda.  It's obvious from their behavior, however:  find the left and kill it.  Now they have added find Islam and kill it so they don't seem to evolve much decade after decade.

The deep disappointment in their loss of integrity comes even harder to Yevette as her family goes back before the settlers.  She's had the most American of blood running through her family for centuries and seeing what has become of the country is heart-breaking to her.  At first they corrupt integrity for a cold war that accomplished absolutely nothing and now there's a crusade that will also accomplish absolutely nothing except, as is likely, fanning the flames, just as it did with the Soviet Union.

There is no oversight of CIA activity by we, the people, and America is paying a severe price for it.  So is the rest of the world.  And you won't even know the price as the CIA budget is classified.
