Merlin Shakes a Leg at Cat's Art MusikCircus

These days I'm Merlin in Second Life.  I figure if you're going to be an old guy then why not be a cool one.  Plus he knows a lot of spells that work on women but he's a wise enough wizard to know women have lots of spells too.  He knows if he plays that stuff then he'll end up a frog on a lily pad in no time.

So instead I surprised Cat and brought the stream up while she was talking to Beth Carpenter, a lady a met tonight and who has a striking voice.  I told Cat about her and they were talking so I figured, hmm, what shall I do.  Then Sister Julie called and asked what's happening.  I told her nothing now but it seems something should.

The systems were started up and I didn't say anything to Cat before activating the stream so she didn't realize what was happening until it actually started.

There was a brief taste of guitar synth as was still set up from my test earlier so might as well play with it a little bit.

The object was a trial run of "The Cat in the Space Between Things" and I was pleased overall but I won't upload the file as there was significant distortion at times and that's a reject.  Despite that, there was good coolness and it rocks up way harder than "The Space Between Things" as there's a rock groove in there that can eat the world.

The lead guitar was fast but on-target.  It wasn't clammish or fumbly and either one of those are death to me.  Cat said it didn't sound at all weak or that there was some weak guy doing it and that is gigantic to me as it's got to be full-power or, for me, it's a sympathy set and the latter ain't going to happen.

This sets a million wheels spinning in my head clock as the dynamics of a song mean a lot to me and it's very difficult to bring a looper up and down; if you bring it to a boil then taking it back to a simmer is not at all an easy thing.  So that means what are your options.  It may seem a shame that music has to be so tactical but ultimately that's the nature of music anyway.

That sort of stuff will spin through my head and trying to write details just now would be senseless.  It's good to let it spin for now.

Cadillac Man and I talked about doing this for pleasure but really it isn't that way.  The pleasure is a rare treat as it's always beautiful to play but most of the time you won't be satisfied as you're building something and it's not there yet.  The pleasure part is every so often when you finish a bit, you'll get the feeling that, yeah, you're one dodgy mofo but that bit wasn't too bad.  Every other part is more work than literal pleasure but in those rare times the pleasure is sublime.  For me, almost every single time that has happened, it has been as a result of playing live.
