Vandengroef Brings His Groovulosity to Cat's Art MusikCircus

Tonight was not a debut for Vandengroef as he has played for years but he has not played for some while in Second Life and he had never played at Cat's Art MusikCircus.  It's been a while since a news report so here goes:

Vandengroef does a looper-based improv set using bass, keys, guitar, and what some thought might have been a music box.  Taking that approach is not so uncommon at the Circus so the bigger question is what does he do with it.

This is all about searching for the groove and Vandengroef brings kind of a reggae bluesy way to it which definitely finds a groove.  It's highly-electronic as he uses quite a bit of echo at maybe .200 ms for a fast repeat and that may seem overpowering but it's not.  It's all part of the groovulosity of the vibe he makes.  Add to that a deliciously luscious synth voice and the overall vibe is softened by it.

Vandengroef sings a lot more than when I had heard him some years ago and he does it very well.  There is great sincerity in what he sings and you can feel immediately these are not just words he sings but something he feels.

This was a debut set but he will be part of the schedule now and that was settled not so long after the show was over.  Come to hear him for yourself in two weeks at the Circus and he will return every fortnight after that.

And it's all brought to you by my favorite li'l stoner kitten, Cat Boucher
