There was time just now listen to Chicagosax play his EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument), Yamaha WX-5, which all sounds a lot more sensible if you call it a sax. It was unusual to hear tonight Yamaha has discontinued it and you can only find them on eBay, apparently at a significant premium. There is another one by Akai but it sounded like Chicago thought it was too clunky and computerish to really be an instrument. So it's disappointing to hear about the discontinuance and there's a book you could write on MIDI and analog instruments. Too bad Yamaha closed this one.
I wasn't playing but I have my answer for building the loop as I will do it for one ... but not the other. There's an ambience that comes from layering the instruments that way. For me it's not necessarily simply a mechanical problem. The piano puts down the backbone of it and pianos do that quite nicely. As that plays through, bass comes in behind it to give it some more beef. Add guitar chords to fatten it out more. Through this the overall feel of the bit isn't so much changing as growing out around you. (The loop for the trip part is already recorded and will just be there when it's needed)
Even though it's fatter, it's still not hammering and that makes it a good place to state the dream.
But then I get artsy fartsy and think escalate that to distortion guitars and get some anguish into it. Cat is in Germany and I have no way to get there. Play some of that screaming lead stuff. One more time saying something such as where can I find you.
Hit the trip phrase to switch and get on with it. So now the story is you got your trip, bluesman. If you want your woman, you better find her. And of course I will as this is not a blues song and there is a cat in the Space between Things." In fact, The Cat is there. Of course it's her as there's only one.
Part of the artsy fartsy is what are the lights doing. Pre-artsy fartsy, the lights should just be the LEDs for color and basic illumination. When the distortion starts then bring up lasers. That's a lot of button pushing in a short time, tho. Moreover, they're buttons on different devices.
There needs to be one more light patch as you get into the trip and then turn them all up.
Here's an example of the one on the rear wall:
If this is framed right, it will look like the world exploded when it starts. They're just LEDs but it's a really fat effect when you use it this way. This should be off until the trippin' starts.
This is the trick part is that it's 6:30 pm but, for me, that feels like 1:30 am or more like 2:30 am for Greece. It did get pushed to some extent last night but not enough. Even so it made for a much more productive morning.
