Voodoo's Gig Killed By a Squirrel - Yes, a Squirrel

Voodoo Shilton was to play at Cat's Art MusikCircus last week but he had power troubles.  He waited until the dead last minute hoping it would come but no joy and the show could not happen.  This was relayed to us by Shanny as Voodoo could call out but couldn't do anything else.  This hung as all of us waited until finally there was just no chance to play and he had to call it.  Here is what happened:  WWLP Squirrel causes a massive power outage in Northampton

We have a late update on this exclusive to Cat's Art MusikCircus:  the squirrel was actually not injured.  It chewed through the insulation on some wires and then went off to collect some nuts.  It waited for the wind to blow and then the wires shorted so the power grid went down.  The squirrel laughed happily and went back to finding more nuts.

The above is not what happened last night as Voodoo came out to play ... once the squirrels got out of the way.  He opened his set with "Tico Tico no Fuba" and it's a delicious piece of work you will probably know.

Last night as he was playing it I was thinking, hmmm, this is not my best time to talk about Voodoo's precision or he will know in a millisecond I just blow smoke.  After he finished the song, he said maybe that wasn't his best choice for 'warming up' and he kind of laughed.  This makes him all the more human as, even with all that Voo coolness, he can still make a mistake.  So he laughs and he plays on as the only real mistake, all together now, is to stop.

This is one of the stone coolest aspects to Cat's Art MusikCircus as Voodoo knows the audience is listening closely and you bet we are.  The MusikCircus isn't a place for the Hello I Love You trolls.  There were multiple musicians in the audience and that's the highest respect Second Life will show as musicians just don't go to gigs.  With some I suppose it's arrogance but mostly it's a matter of time as there just isn't enough time to do that and everything else.

Cat could not be at the show last night as she had troubles with heat all day.  Maybe you think you have troubles with heat but Cat is in the mountains in Bavaria.  This requires more time in another article but it's beautiful how she gets heat because it comes from the kitchen stove and it warms the entire house.  This is not an uncommon practice and it works exceptionally well.  However, when it doesn't work out so well, you freeze and you don't eat.

Voodoo does something few other performers do in that he sells recordings of his performances.  This is the saving for me as I can get that for Cat and at least she can hear the show later.  Why it's particularly important to mention this is that it's not a sales pitch, you can only buy that recording if you attend Voodoo's performance, ideally at the MusikCircus but he plays all over.  The main thing to know, if you want to hear Voodoo in your car then you better get yourself to his show as you can't get a recording any other way.

I think it was the song right after "Tico Tico" in which Voodoo plays with people a little bit as he goes into what seems like twelve-bar blues and your first thought is, man, I'm not even believing this ... but he doesn't stop at twelve bars.  He draws you into it with a familiar motif and then, here we go, off to the stratosphere.  Voodoo should trademark Here We Go as whenever he says it you know he is going to kick in the jet's afterburner.

So I can show you his video and I can tell you how he is but I do know one thing for sure:  his show next week will not be the same as the one this week.  That gives only one answer:  be there.  We'll be looking for you.
