Pope Francis Says Weapons Manufacturers Are Not Christians

No more sissy stuff, Pope Francis is throwing it down hard.

“It makes me think of ... people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit of distrust, doesn’t it?” he said to applause.

and ...

He also criticised those who invest in weapons industries, saying “duplicity is the currency of today ... they say one thing and do another.”

(The Guardian: Pope Francis suggests those in weapons industry can't call themselves Christian)

Judging by GOP reaction to previous statements by Pope Francis, this incident will drive them apoplectic.

Previously there was cover that Catholic leadership supports, even enthusiastically, the things Pope Francis has been saying.  Whether this also includes a majority of Catholics in the U.S. is unknown but the statement from the Archbishop of Louisville (I believe it was) was strongly supportive and, at least according to the article, he's the Big Cheese for Catholics in the U.S.

Since just about any American with a 401K plan is invested in the weapons industry, Pope Francis is throwing this down to a whole lot of people.  Whether it amounts to anything remains to be seen but he has my major respect for having the stones to take the position.
