Everything else on the system can see the Western Digital My Book drive ... except WD Smartware. It makes no difference whether the drive is plugged directly to the machine or via a USB 3.0 hub, to the Smartware it's not there. In fact, the only drive it can see is the internal SSD it should never touch.
The only reason for any interest in the WD Smartware application is Western Digital drives now default to going to sleep after ten minutes of inactivity. Think of the genius of designing the disk for the fastest possible data transfer and then putting it to sleep so the drive needs to spin up to speed before it can even be read.
This campaign will do it for today. It's not resolved as yet but the problem to solve is only an annoyance, a particularly stupid annoyance, but no more than that. Almost all software is now installed on the system and there are no problems with any of the rest of it. There had to be one malcontent in the mix, right (shrug).
The only software pending after this is Photoshop but the install is well done and the only problem with it is newer iMacs do not have an optical drive and the installation can only come from a CD as it's CS 3 from years ago. I know it runs and it just needs to be installed.
The next bit is to get passwords / email addresses straight for various real-time systems.
Cat, Skype is first of them and this is way past the promises, promises stage. I'm still nervous the screen will go dark at any time but confidence the problem is really fixed will come after more time passes with the system.
Anything further will have to wait for later as this has been going on almost continuously since 4am and it's about 5:30pm now. That's quite enough software installation fun for now.
