Zakynthos - Greek Island in Ionian Sea

Zakynthos is a Greek island and is just off the West coast of Greece in the Ionian Sea.  It's visible from my back porch here in Katakolo when the weather is clear and that, right now, isn't very often.  It frequently disappears into mist which gives it quite a mystical feel.

The island has a documented history all the way back to the Stone Age and it has had a quite varied history since then.  Some of the bays around the island have white pebble beaches that extend out under the water giving it an extraordinary color as there's nothing at all to pollute it.  Some of the pictures you've seen of Greek beaches are from Zakynthos due to the extraordinary effect of the white pebbles under the water and the turquoise color that comes.

You can read more about the island in the Zakynthos Wiki and the history was quite a revelation.  One of most impressive aspects of the island's history is that the Mayor and the Bishop of Zakynthos would not turn over to the Nazis the names of Jews on the island and instead hid them in villages around Zakynthos.  All of them survived the War.

There's a ferry from the mainland to Zakynthos and that means I could take the scooter over there.  That might be a swell thing to do, assuming it doesn't cost too much.  That trip will have to wait for better weather as riding there in the rain is probably about the same as riding around the mainland in the rain!

Sorry that this is the only picture for today but the sunny skies didn't last and I dashed off to the market before I could get soaked again.  The rain clouds usually come generally from the West so I can see them and, today, the rain falling as I ride back.  The road from Pyrgos to Katakolo was relatively dry so it was time to see how fast the scooter would go and it maxes out totally at 95 kph, maybe 94 kph, definitely no more.  That's not too bad for 150 cc's!  So long as I don't max it out all the time, it should putter along for a good long while and 80 kph to 90 kph would be sufficient for scooting around Greece in reasonably good time.

More to come

150 ccs and cruising at 90k might be reducing the long life of the scooter

I usually don't as 80 kph does just fine and another 10 won't change my life in any big way but it could shorten it substantially for me, the scooter, or both. A little bit of good behavior could be quite the economical decision in a number of ways!
