Pictures from about the city center (κέντρο - kentro) of Pyrgos, Greece. This isn't a documentary as I have no idea what most of the stuff might be so these are impressions from wandering about close to the center of Pyrgos:
This is likely the highest spot in Pyrgos and it's a landmark for me as it's right next to the office for Georgia the Dentist. The trouble is that the elevation for the city center is not really that much over the surrounding area so you can only get a glimpse of it once in a while and usually not at all. I'm sure the church is Greek Orthodox but I don't know anything beyond that.
Notice the sky is turning grey and any sensible two-wheeler would have turned around to ride home. I am not a sensible two-wheeler, however. More pictures follow.
istante is some type of fashion store and, as you would probably expect, prices at the city center are not cheap.
Yep, Goody's is a burger joint but don't take that to mean that Pyrgos is Americanized in any big way. This is the only place I saw and I went inside to find it had just as much of a Greek character to it as everywhere else. You can get much, much better burgers pre-cooked in the markets as they will be spiced and the ones in Goody's are not or, at least, not much.
Here's another church at the city center and it's likely Greek Orthodox as well. It's only a stone's throw from the other one so I'll get more information on why there are two so close when perhaps it might have been better to reach more people by separating them by some distance.
ΕΠΙΤΑΣ translates to 'intensification' so some research will be needed on just what that means.
Here's a view out over the city. Do you see anything that could be used as a landmark for finding your way around. Neither do I and you can't see much of anything from the street level because almost all of the streets are quite narrow.
You may notice there's no sidewalk but some streets have them and on the others you work your way along carefully. It's not a huge threat as they're not moving quickly at all.
If you're on a scooter, you're expected to wave in-between the cars to quickly find your way to the front and people behind you will be annoyed if you hold them up. Don't take that to mean the drivers are angry as they're not. Everyone does quite a nice job of navigating the streets and it's all very mannerly even if absolute chaos from an American view.
