When John Glenn went to space, I was a thirteen-year-old kid. We watched all the launches and we couldn't see anything like this much detail but it was magnificent.
Gordon Cooper: (to aboriginal man) My buddy is going to fly over us ... up in outer space.
Aboriginal Man: oh, you do that too.
That's the opening segment and "The Right Stuff" shows as much as possible of how the actual launch went and how it was for John Glenn in orbit and return.
Maybe you remember from it how John Glenn told his wife, Annie, to tell LBJ to take a hike. She was acutely shy and LBJ wanted a photo op so, sure enough, tell him to go away. He damn sure was made of the right stuff. The man knew loyalty like it was tattooed on his heart.
There's no need for editorial as John Glenn was one of America's best and hopefully you know that already. Yes, of course he was a Democrat.
