The basis for the enormous numbers of hits to Ithaka has never been clear but there will periodically be huge numbers of them originating in Russia. Those hits didn't much affect the individual read counts for articles so it seemed they were always using a generic link to Ithaka which will accept whatever comes (i.e. http://searchingforithaka.blogspot.com).
Note: that is the best way to do it since otherwise you will only see the articles which others pop to the top via What's Hot and that's essentially the Ithaka Mainstream. You already know the best stuff is hardly ever what the mainstream chooses. Mystery Lady has known that from the start and blows straight past anything political while those ones almost always go to the top.
It turned out there was a purpose to reading the entire blog every time since it was all being translated to Russian and being uploaded to Moscow's own Searching for Ithakanov and it's being prepared by Silas Scarborovnik.
