On the way to Genova I discovered my plan to avoid mountains was not altogether successful but the going was not difficult and I saw some beautiful places along the way. Here is a small village, perhaps Santa Marta, where I stopped briefly.
You can see down the road that the terrain is definitely much more rugged than it was for the relatively flat parts of the interior of Italy.
This was a beautiful place and there was very little here apart from homes but there doesn't need to be anything else. This is not just a small street within the village but rather it is the highway on the road to Genova.
Everywhere on English sites you will see Genova called Genoa. The interested student can try to determine why the 'v' was dropped as there seems little purpose to it other than insulting Italians! If you say Genoa in Italy you will most certainly be corrected and quite rightly.
Here is a beach near Genova. The picture is not so good as it was taken after the scooter had fallen over and I thought the camera was broken.
This beach is not characteristic of the beaches along the west Italian coast. It's accurate in that it shows they are rocky while the ones on the east coast are sandy but it is much less crowded than most of them.
The development along the coast is continuous all the way to the border with France and then it continues on the French side. However, it doesn't feel as 'Florida' on this coast as it does on the east coast. There is much of of a feel of Italy here.
