The Jaguar D-Type | Most Beautiful Car Which Ever Existed

The Jaguar D-type is an incredible rarity since there are only five of the Jaguar D-type which ever existed.  All experts agree, naturally, that no more beautiful car has ever been built.

The D-type was scheduled to debut at the 1954 Le Mans where, prior to the race, it set the high speed for the track at 172 mph on the Mulsanne Straight and this is the car which did it.  Fuel problems prevented anyone from the Jaguar team from racing in the main event but there was no doubt from anyone that the D-type would have won it.

I was only four in 1954 so I must have picked up D-type love from my ol' Dad but it never wore off and I still don't see a reason it should.

Terry Larsen seems to be the modern embodiment for Jaguar and a number of videos on YouTube feature him with this specific car since he owns it.  The selling price to him looks like it was $1.7 million in 1999.  If you were thinking it's a replica, lose that idea.

Gearheads may not be satisfied there's enough of the sound of the D-type but there's a great deal of background information which you may find an acceptable substitute.

Car Maniac:  why not call us petrolheads as on "Top Gear?"

Because it's another stupid portmanteau the world did not need.  The best word for people who invent such things is 'meathead' from Archie Bunker.

Everything about this car says it could be driven like a kart and would stay just as flat in the corner.

All for the glory of wind in the face.

The biggest question with vehicles like this is what can you possibly do with them.  Driving in the Mille Miglia is one possibility.

This one is more for color than anything else for taking gorgeous cars and driving them in beautiful places at ridiculously high speed.

My next car! What kind of warranty comes with it?

Your taste is excellent but there's a tiny problem. The only thing you get with the car for $1.7 million is a handshake.

And that was twenty years ago, it will cost a lot more now. Glory!

I think you should try another guess on the price tag. It is closer to $20M.
And I maybe wrong but I thought a D type did win Le Mans

Negatory on that one as I did look. Back when he copped it in 1999, he got it for less than two mill and I don't know the market even close to as well as you but I'm sure it would meet that twenty mill price today.

I think you better research D type Jaguar/ Le Mans
It won not once not twice but three times 55 56 and 57

Ah but the only one which counted was when Stirling Moss was driving. Ha!

That would still give one which is more than none
But the other two are still in the record books

And it's a beautiful thing, each one
