My experience as a stoner is probably longer than yours and it's almost certainly more checkered since I have lived anywhere ganja was legal. That time has yielded multiple observations and one of which is only the smart kids dig it that much. It's not ubiquitous but it's far more common than in those less intellectually-gifted and that's why there is mainstream music; it's better than nothing when ganja doesn't do it for you.
Children who do well in school are more likely to smoke weed and drink alcohol as teens and adults, but less likely to smoke cigarettes, according to a new study.
The study, carried out on more than 6,000 young people in England over a 7-year period by University College London researchers James Williams and Gareth Hagger-Johnson, has been published in the British Medical Journal.

The study had a fairly good-sized sample and it had serious longevity. The result was satisfactory for the British Medical Journal so that should be acceptable out here. Apparently it's scientific truth.
Academic ability was defined in the study by results of a nationwide test taken by 11-year-olds which assessed their prowess in English, maths, and science. The research found that higher achieving children are more likely to smoke weed in their late teens than their peers.

No change in that going back fifty years. I know that because I was doing it.
Note: there's no attempt to strike a pose since I woke up and I was relatively good with numbers. I didn't have anything to do with that; it just happened.
The researchers also found these patterns persist into adulthood, refuting the notion that experimentation with drugs or alcohol in teen years is a ‘phase’.
“Our finding that adolescents with high academic ability are less likely to smoke but more likely to drink alcohol regularly and use cannabis is broadly consistent with evidence base on adults,” read a statement from the researchers.
Smarter students being more open to experience is one of the possible explanations suggested by William and Hagger-Johnson for their findings, along with a more affluent lifestyle affording some students the opportunity to access drugs and alcohol.

I've only been telling you that for years but does anyone listen .... nooooo.
How about this for Today's Hare-Brained Theory. Pain meds and soporifics, etc don't lead anyone to use meth and the people who use that rot aren't usually brainiacs. Ganja doesn't do anything for them so they step over to crazy drugs. That's nothing new since I have seen it but never sought speedy type drugs when the last thing I needed was to get any more wired. I got that 'blessing' right out of the box.
However, one of our number is no slouch for IQ numbers but he was the Clifton Speed King at one time. Empirical data is erratic regarding the Hare-Brained Theory but I think it's generally true.
Speed is great stuff, tho. It makes you as annoying as a human can possibly get without the active use of weapons and it shrinks your peckerwood to the size of a pencil eraser. Oh yeah, fetch me more of that.
