Amazon's Blue Horizon is the Space Race Stalking Horse

We have heard some interesting things from Amazon, Blue Horizon, and Jeff Bezos and that even included a soft landing for their rocket booster but they haven't really managed any particular spectacle.  However, that stalking position has been changing substantially in recent weeks.  (RT:  Amazon’s Blue Origin rockets rekindle space race (PHOTOS, VIDEO))

Blue Origin

Blue Origin says the rockets will be the fastest way for America to end its dependence on the Russian-made RD-180 engine, since they do not require any taxpayer funds.  Bezos has reportedly spent over $500 million of his own money on the aerospace company since 2000.

Each BE-4 rocket engine uses oxygen-rich staged combustion of liquid oxygen and liquefied natural gas to provide 550,000 pounds of thrust.

On Tuesday, Bezos secured their first paying customer, the French satellite operator Eutelsat Communications during the Satellite 2017 Convention in Washington, DC.

According to a statement, Eutelsat’s agreement with Blue Origin will cover the launch of at least one geostationary satellite between 2021 and 2022.

On the surface, it's easy to dismiss Blue Origin as a secondary participant but check out the boosters they are or will be using for launches.

Notice the Glenn booster, named for John Glenn, since it's a near-match for the Saturn V, the same vehicle which was used to send astronauts to the Moon and the biggest booster America ever built.  NASA's new Space Launch System is not shown and it's the current major contender for heavy-lift launches.
