The American Liaison with Iran

The increasing dialog between Iran and America is revealing much deeper reasoning than the simplistic yowling from Ahmedinjad.  Discussion regarding the current relationship with Saudi Arabia is interesting in terms of the Iranian interpretation of it and the fact there is tension at all.

The Iranian government may not seem balanced when presented via news channels but we have been watching democratic turnovers of their government for years now and they take care of business of this nature just fine.  The Saudis contrast strongly with that because it's one of the world strongest and most vicious dictatorships.  Saudi execution of an Islamic cleric some weeks ago escalated the tense situation so now Iran presents their view of things.  (CNN:  Iran: Saudi Arabia is 'panicking,' the 2 countries can coexist)

Obama has borked much of his foreign policy but this has been a masterstroke in diplomacy with Iran in terms of stabilizing the region.  Without their cooperation, stability is likely impossible in the Middle East and without their focus it's likely the Saudis will never be held accountable for how much they have fomented and exacerbated the conflict.

Ordinarily the problem is too many gunners and not enough diplomats and that problem goes on forever, as we have seen.  Now we see some real diplomacy and substantive things come of it quickly.

Opening Iran may be Obama's greatest legacy.
