Another Day, Another Death Threat

If you're not making people angry, you really don't have it happening and a sure sign it's on is when they're throwing death threats.  This one was throwing them at Cat about me so quite the courageous soul there, wouldn't you say.  He wants to kill me, he says.  So dramatic of him.

Note:  she chucked him out a window.  It was tragic (sob).

Colonel Kurtz watches and says there is no hope of victory when there is such spinelessness and lack of commitment.  If it is his purpose to kill you then do it rather than threatening.  Then Kurtz asks of someone we can't see if the bigger horror is the war or the lack of reaction to it.

We think probably the horror is about the same.

They get all excited about killing things ... right up until they have to do it themselves.  If you can do it yourself, it's only because you broke your humanity so thoroughly there's nothing left to recover and you're left with nothing but the horror, the horror.

"Andromeda Weeps" is specifically about having the capability and the authorization to kill people but refusing to do it.  Tests are said to have shown some percentage of operators in nuclear missile silos actually do refuse to launch.  What if anything has been done to address that, we don't know but it's our purpose to ask all of them to stand down.

The general premise is the so-called enemy has launched their missiles and we ask our people not to retaliate in the hope somewhere on the Earth humanity still survives after it's over.  The rationale being a full-out nuclear war with both sides unloading leaves no chance for anything to survive anywhere.

(Ed:  cockroaches will survive!)

Unless they can eat radioactive sand, they likely won't last much longer than we.

Note:  I don't believe life would be entirely destroyed to the point of wiping out even anaerobic bacteria rocks.  It's too much academic to get into it in this context because it would take maybe millions of years for that life to evolve back into something which makes more than make foul marsh gases and definitely not any life we would recognize.

(Ed:  the story in the song is too far out for anyone to believe it)

This is no more difficult than the fundamental idea of nuclear disarmament.  In this situation, we will have disarmament regardless of the military position.

(Ed:  you will all die)

Yes.  Such is the incompetence of the military or it would never have come to this and all the more reason to disarm before it ever does come to that.  When there is greater moral terror in remaining alive than dying to kill everyone else, the war is already lost and humanity cannot be saved.

(Ed:  why write the song?)

Because I don't believe it cannot be saved.  We have not been strong enough yet to save it.

(Ed:  mankind saves itself by possessing the weapons and agreeing not to use them)

There is air but I will not breathe it, there is water but I will not drink it, and these things mean nothing.  Agreements are air and they make it so we can't breathe it because we don't own the weapons, they own us.  Always there is an artificial fear weighing on us in an ocean of militant sewage, all of it telling us we are free.

From what?

We would like to be free of the sewage, to breathe clean air without radiation or fear blowing on it.

(Ed:  you sound like a fuckin' sermon!)

Well, yah, that's why I do this with songs instead.  The motive needs to be clear from the outset because yeah, yeah, yeah just isn't going to do it for me.  Call it desk checking if you like but the think part at this point is the goodness as it grows.  Get it straight or waste time fixing it later.

(Ed:  these are Old Fart Anthems)

Maybe so but I know this is the best stuff I ever played and this is what I choose to play.  There are many things I could be playing but this is specific and fills an acute need for substance.  "I Love Rats" is funny and maybe you get a bang out of the speed but, without lyrics, there's no possible way to know what it means.  There's determination now that songs must have lyrics and can't be axe-whacking alone although there is still a place for it so long as the balance is right.

(Ed:  you're looking for meaning?)

I am trying to deliver it.  My skills are the best they have ever been while at the same time my body disintegrates so that makes a deep mix.  Anything I play could get whacked in a millisecond so play it good, bitch.

The part which pends just now is a breakaway dream state bit.  There's the primary Phase 1 with two parts in it.  That loops back around to start again on F# sus2 so instead of going forward from there as it would in Phrase 1, now it needs trips.  They're mad in love, the world is about to destroy itself, and this moment exists.  Trips.

(Ed:  these songs do not sound angry enough.  What good is an anti-war song if it is not angry?)

Anger is not often best served by shouting.  It's not the purpose to make a spectacle but rather a statement.

Other than coming off the top on the F# sus2, there's no way to break out of Phrase 1 so that means if there's to be a Phrase 3, it either has to be driven by Phrase 2 or come off Phrase 1 in the same way but do something different.

The schematic goes 1) a time of peace, 2) a call to launch, 3) confirming their love, 4) don't go, 5) he doesn't, 6) it's a false alarm.

After 3) is where it can break out to Trips and after some trippin', come back to start again with Phrase 1 from the top which is the announcement of the false alarm ... or it does something else.  That's why the rambling about just now.  Is there anything else which needs to be said or is another phrase just adding complexity for its own sake.

We don't have Brando around to say something cool because going ultra ethereal works to emphasize the utter lunacy of keeping things which can destroy the entire planet and everything on it.  The horror, the horror.  That's not instead of Trips but in addition to it.  We have the foundation story of the alert, the story within of the love, and then the confirmation of the love so it flows to go beyond that to a bit of existentialism about what a piece of crap that these young lovers have to carry this.

Yah, I do believe we have a motive.  This can go, gives some dynamics, adds some depth.

(Ed:  it's not cryptic and full of metaphors)

Perhaps that would not be suitably respectful of the topic.  Everything dies.  Everything.

This project is definitely rolling.  Really diggin' it.

Death threats??  Pfft.  If you ask why I feel disconnected, that might be a clue (larfs).
