There is worry in Europe over whether Donald Trump could actually win the election and become President so Cat wanted to know, does that rabid bastard really have a chance. She did not state it in quite those terms, tho.
Donald Trump doesn't have any more chance of playing the White House than PeeWee Herman has of playing Carnegie Hall.
Trump plays to evangelicals, although not very well, and disenfranchised far-right extremists. They don't have enough power to swing a county fair, much less a Presidential election. This group, among others, has been trying to take down Obama's Affordable Care Act for eight years and accomplished absolutely nothing. They're excellent at making a cacophonous row but not so much for actually accomplishing anything.

No. These people have been angry since the day they were born. The evangelicals create oppression and paranoia by constantly evangelizing and bugging the living hell out of everyone. Most people don't have a problem with religion but an enormous number have a huge problem with the deliberately bad manners of evangelicals.
Trump also tries to tap into a pool of imagined voters as exemplified by Ammon Bundy and his 'Constitutional defenders' who occupy the Oregon national wildlife preserve just now. If you chop these fools, you will have wood to send for pulp processing in China since these dense li'l cowboys are trying to fight the National Park Service which has been a part of the Federal government since Teddy Roosevelt, maybe even earlier than that.

Yah, but there aren't enough of them. It's not hard to fill a hall with ten thousand people and make it look like the Rolling Stones have come to town but it's a rather different thing to convince three hundred million people and Donald Trump isn't even close. He's the first candidate I've ever seen in which a foreign government has considered banning him for 'hate speech' (under consideration in British Parliament right now).
Donald Trump has been and remains an active embarrassment to the majority of Americans with his tasteless manner, his nouveau riche affectation, and his utter lack of substance. Donald Trump couldn't care less if he's ever elected, he has nothing better to do and he feeds on the attention.
