Searching for the Dodo But Only Finding Feathers

An anonymous benefactor requested implementation of the DONATE button I had posted on Ithaka at one time but was subsequently removed since I felt it was sleazy.  I don't mind and in fact I enjoy hustling for Code Pink but doing that for myself I found loathsome.

I said I would do it and subsequently remove it but there's a tiny problem since I can't find it.  That wasn't the stop since I did go to PayPal but the donate function is now well-hidden and I searched for references to donation within PayPal but came up dry.  I did give it a fair dinkum try, tho.

Another possibility is to put a GoFundMe ... but don't advertise it anywhere except here.  It's not my purpose to solicit a car or a boat or some such but it is to try to get along in a situation which is more difficult than I hope any of you ever finds for yourself.

So there's been feathers floating about but no Dodo so far.

The fundamental problem with using such a device is no gift is ever unencumbered although some may be less loaded than others.  There's no possible way I can ever repay any gift and, thus, my reluctance.

For my own defense in ever accepting anything, you can see, at least in the context of Ithaka, the Rockhouse never sells anything and has always given things away but without or not much encumbrance since whatever it was is still doing something good but somewhere else.  As with the anonymous benefactor, when something is given away like that there's no need to follow to see whatever became of it and the other end of that is a bank which will hunt you down with dogs if you take their money and don't give it back.

I'm not sure if I apologize or what for a deep moral repugnance for any kind of solicitation of that nature and that's specifically why I slam televangelists, etc.  Bring Jesus if you will but don't send me an invoice for it since I don't view that as a gift but a performance.  That's not a slam of preachers in general, only the ones who see a profitable windfall in that type of presentation.

That request will take a bit more review but maybe the GoFundMe is the fastest and easiest way to make that request happen.

Patreon was removed for generally the same reason since it's not only slutty but somewhat contrived insofar as there's some type of subscription involved in which you're pledging ongoing support but that's not acceptable since we're not looking for disciples but rather a bit of help sometimes.

More to come but I don't have a strong plan at the moment.  I will come up with something.
